What Effects Cold Beverages May Have on Your Body

According to the ancient science of Ayurveda, drinking cold water or other drinks during meals could give the digestive system a hard time. As a result, it’s often recommended to wait for 30 minutes (at least) before and 30 minutes after every meal. Also, if you really need to drink, it’s better to sip on at room temperature instead. Though, aside from that, there are other reasons why you should avoid drinking cold water, and here are some of them.

It Could Lead to Mucus Buildup

Drinking a lot of cold drinks after having a meal could create excess mucus in the body and this could weaken the immune system. Thus, the body would be vulnerable to cold and other forms of illnesses. With that, it’s recommended to drink warm tea instead of cold water, and this would prevent the buildup.

It Could Cause Stomach Fat

Drinking beverages at room temperature is considered to be more beneficial because the body doesn’t need to use any energy, unlike with cold drinks. Likewise, studies show that the problem with cold beverages is that, when it passes through the system, the temperature solidifies the fats from the food that were consumed; thus resulting in weight gain.

Could Shock the Internal Organs

After exerting a lot of effort and sweat through exercise, no one could say no to a bottle of ice-cold water flowing down our throats and quenching our thirst. However, studies show that drinking ice-cold water after an exercise could cause the internal organs and digestive system to get shocked.

After doing some strenuous activities, our bodies become warm and drinking ice-cold drinks could have a negative impact, especially in our body temperature and this would give the digestive system, a hard time. Likewise, it would be hard for the body to absorb water that’s ice-cold. Thus, it wouldn’t replenish the body instantly. For some, they might even experience pain in the stomach.

A lot of people in the alternative health field believe that drinking cold beverages are harmful to one’s health. Though, for some, they believe that it doesn’t really interfere with anything, but helps the body break down the food more efficiently. Nonetheless, it’s still up to you if you’ll continue drinking cold water or not. However, if you’re going to drink cold water after meals, it’s ideal to drink it slowly. Slow sips at a time and don’t chew the ice. See how your body reacts after drinking cold water.
