“The word sometimes comes with some negative connotations. A simple Google search will tell you that diva is defined as woman regarded as temperamental or haughty. But here at Divas Room, we like to look at the word a little differently. In the wise words of Queen Bey, we like to believe A diva is a female version of a hustler.
For us, the word diva is a source of empowerment. We like to think of a diva as a woman who knows what they want and works hard to get there. They exude confidence, without ego and are comfortable in their own skin. These women come in all shapes, sizes, colours and backgrounds and we want to celebrate these women right here on Divas Room. Here are some current divas in the limelight that will serve as some daily inspiration. To start us off, our first
Who: Shailene Woodley
Best known for:
Woodleys first breakthrough role review was playing character Amy Juergens, a pregnant teenager in The Secret Life of the American Teenager. But these days you probably know her better for playing Tris in the movie Divergent or the adorable and witty Hazel Grace in the new blockbuster hit The Fault In Our Stars
Favourite quote:
Lately, I’ve been getting too much attention with the Met Gala and work going so well that I try to find rejection in my day. I’ll seek out someone on the street or at the farmers’ market and ask for something where I know they’ll say no. No one likes rejection, but it’s real. And I don’t want to lose that feeling.
Something might not know about her:
Woodley is quite the environmentalist and because of that she has quite the unconventional beauty regiment. She is very into herbalism and makes her own beauty products. Almost everything she uses is homemade from her toothpaste and body lotion.
Upcoming projects:
Woodley is currently filming the the sequel to Divergent. If you’ve read the series, you know that it only gets better which is why we’re super excited for Insurgent. It also means more Theo James, so you can’t complain there.
Why she’s a diva:
Woodley is 2014’s Jennifer Lawrence, except better. Many wouldn’t describe this down-to-earth scarlet as a diva but when you look at her repertoire, she has all the makings of one. She’s was the leading lady of two of 2014’s most anticipated films Divergent and The Fault In Our Stars. Unlike some Hollywood it-girls, Â Woodley is actually talented. Want to prove it for yourself? Just check out the indie flick The Spectacular Now or The Descendants where she got nominated for a Golden Globe. Not too bad for a 22-year-old.
But what we really love about Woodley is she gives no excuses for being who she is. Unless she’s doing promos, red carpets or TV appearances, Woodley keeps it cool and casual with her strictly used-clothing wardrobe. When she’s away from the limelight, Woodley likes to live a simple life. She doesn’t own a fancy house or mansion but instead couch surfs so she can spend time with family and friends. She;s funny, confident and has an admirable this is me, take it or leave it. If all these things don’t qualify as a diva, we don’t know what does.
