5 Of The Most Unhealthiest Snacks At Night

“If you have embarked on a healthy lifestyle, then you have to know that there are some foods you should avoid before going to bed. You may feel hungry just before you sleep, and the temptation to grab a quick snack can be very overwhelming. However, you should know that some can cause your body more harm than good. Here is a list of 5 of the most unhealthiest snacks at night:

Snacks containing high sugar

The allure of chocolate or candy melting upon the tongue is what makes a good night for some people. If you are one of them, then you need to know that sugar is your number one enemy when it comes to choosing a snack to take before you sleep. For one, they are very high in calories, and if you are going to eat them during your time of physical inactivity (sleep), then you can be sure of weight gain. Additionally, sugar will give you a temporary high that will cause your heart beat to increase, hence giving you more energy. That is one thing you do not need, especially when you want to go to bed, because it will lead to insomnia.

Greasy treats

Avoid foods that have a lot of fat. So, do not reach for a packet of fries, or your plate of deep fried chicken wings to satisfy your hunger when you are about to go to bed. You should know by now how unhealthy fat is, and how long it takes the body to fully digest fat. Moreover, chances of you waking up the following day feeling sluggish and nauseated are high if you eat very greasy food before you go to bed.

Fizzy drinks

First, fizzy drinks like sodas have very high sugar content, that will cause weight gain if taken regularly. They also end up corroding the enamel of your teeth and can interfere with your dental hygiene and it is even worse if you take them as snack jut when you want to sleep. Due to the fact that fizzy drinks have a lot of gas, you may also end up feeling gassy and bloated, which can cause discomfort during sleep. Some also contain caffeine that will keep you awake through out the night.

Snacks containing red meat

Read meat is also another ingredient that should be avoided in night snacks. This means that you should skip on taking meat pies, beef burgers and other snacks containing meat. The protein and fats in red meat makes your body work over time in digesting it. Your body will spend the whole night trying to break it down for absorption, and you may experience stomach cramps that will keep you tossing and turning in bed the whole night. Worst still, you will gain weight from this choice of snacks.

Peanut butter

You must be thinking: But I thought peanut was healthy, Well, roasted peanut taken in the right portion is a healthy snack. Peanut butter on the other hand is filled with fats that are not good for the body. You should also remember that for you to have peanut butter as a snack, you may have to make a sandwich. And bread contains carbohydrates that are too complex for your body to break down easily while you sleep.

Generally, you should avoid snacks that contain high amounts of carbohydrates, sugar and fats. Instead, opt for a healthy snack like nuts, fruits, or vegetable smoothies.”
